Saturday Night Recap - Rock and Roll Hotel

After a few years of not venturing out to the new (and gentrified) H Street Corridor, we finally bit the bullet and headed out to that neighborhood.  All I can say is WOW! It has changed for the better with lots of new restaurants, bars and concert halls.  This is what I wore to the concert instead of another outfit.

The concert was AWESOME!!!  We went to see Blackberry Belles at Rock and Roll Hotel.

Matt, the lead singer, is a really nice guy and always comes up and talks to us, plus I stay in touch with his whereabouts on FB.  There were two other bands: The El Rays, a surfer rock band from Denmark, for all those old school enthusiasts who love the sounds of the twangy 50s guitar surf music such as Dick Dale or the Ventures or Jan and Dean;

and the other band that opened up for them, Dirty Names, were these incredible energetic hipsters with a pure rock and roll sound.

I can't really classify them but they are reminiscent of early glam rock of Velvet Underground, New York Dolls, T Rex, and maybe a little Rolling Stones thrown in, etc.  These guys are touring the East coast all the way to Dallas in the next few weeks so if you happen to see them live, please do so.  The lead singer oozes charisma and sexuality (ah youth), engaging with the crowd and just makes you want to watch him all night long. He definitely makes for a great lead singer.  The guitarist with the funky mullet wig was an absolutely great musician and haven't heard great music like that in a long time.  I have a feeling they will hit it big some day.

Finally, the Blackberry Belles played and they were quite good. The drummer is a petite young thing with blond dreadlocks and kicks ass on the drums.  This is a stock photo since I can't seem to get their photos together on stage, but the one below is the one I took via IPhone.
