Sunday at the Museum

Sunday was a beautiful cool and crisp day and a perfect day out for my venture out to the Phillips Musem to see the Edgar Degas' exhibits of the famous ballet dancers.  The Phillips Museum is known for the turn-of-the-century modern art that I'm drawn to from Degas to Matisse to Van Gogh to Picasso (one my favorite artists).

The Phillips Museum

I wore this outfit to the museum which was taken at home right before I left.

The museum allowed visitors to take photos via Iphone of all exhibits with the exception of the Degas exhibit so I have no photos of that but there were some color photographs of Swan Lake by a german ballet company that I wasn't familiar with.

However, I did manage to take some great shots of the others famous artists.

My favorite artist - Pablo Picasso

 Matisse

 Van Gogh

Renoir (I always remember this painting from the movie Amelie)

After the museum, we checked out the Dupont Circle farmer's market that's held every Sunday. I didn't buy anything.

Then it was off to KramerBooks Afterwards for afternoon cocktails and great conversation.

Lunch was at Circa where we proceeded to share a chicken salad sandwich with our final cocktail of the day, Prosecco:

That was a great end to the the rest of the day.

Shopping Day Galore at Anthropologie and other stores

It feels that sometimes you have to buy things even when you're not looking for anything. That's when it all happens: Those shoes you've thought about, the little accessory you always wanted but couldn't find, or a dress you had your eye on for a while.  This is what happened yesterday on my shopping excursion to one store: Anthropologie. Plus I stopped by some other places too.

 coat / jacket: Anthropologie
(not sure if I should keep this)

 cloche hat: Anthropologie
dress: Anthropologie

 skirt: Anthropologie

shoes: Bandolino

 necklace: Filene's Basement

Flashback Friday (okay saturday) - Remembering Halloween

Halloween is upon us and unfortunately it's raining out.  No plans for Halloween this year but had a few photos I wanted to share from 2001 - 2008.  It's still not too late and maybe I'll come up with something later.

To Philly and Back

My weekend was fabulous and began with a day trip to Philadelphia on Saturday. I decided to take the earlier bus which was a good idea considering how quickly the day flew by.

I met with a friend who lives in the heart of the city and lives in beautiful art deco building with gorgeous views of the city. We talked, walked, shopped, ate, drank (a little wine and cider with a cheese plate at Dandelion restaurant, then coffee later on), and by the end of the evening (which came upon us too fast), we were wiped out. I know I was.

No fashion photos here because it's kind of hard to take them when you are being touristy and have bad walking shoes on. I did however try on some clothes at the usual stores (HM, Anthropologie) but forgot to take photos. Oh well.

The postcard of the Dandelion restaurant below reminds me of Edward Gorey's illustrations and wondering if this was one of his works. I didn't get a chance to ask and may have to check out the restaurants website for any information.

Cheeseplate at the restaurant. I had a glass of temperanillo and friend had a Wagner's pear cider which was to die for:

We had dinner at a great sushi place then I had to catch a 9:30 train back to DC. I got back at 11:30 only to wait for DH because the route he too was closed off to fire engines and lots of traffic. By the time I got home, I went straight to bed and crashed hard.I had great time in Philly but on next visit I'd like to do a weekend with a little sightseeing thrown in.

Flashback Friday

Inspired by youlookfab.com site where people posted their modern interpretations of different eras (my favorite being the 60's), I had to post something that reminded me of the 60s pop culture, fashion, music and dancing.  To this day, I can still see myself wearing outfits like these. Gosh...fashion was way cooooool...man!!  Yeah.

Weekend To-Do's and Shopping Finds

My weekend was good and I managed to finish some of my to-do list.
  • Saturday - I ended up staying home on a beautiful day to clean up house. I knew once I started I wouldn't stop so it was quite productive. I cleaned up the guest room, swept and washed the living room floors, washed the window sills (they were filthy), pruned some plants, ironed clothes, and finally rested with a good book.  Here's a little glimpse.  The walls are bare since I removed my paintings/pictures because I planned to rearrange  them.

  • Sunday - I hung out with husband in the morning, made quiche for brunch, then headed out to my moms house to run errands with her. We ended up going to Ross and I found a fabulous little black dress for a steal: .49 cents. YES. You read correctly. A definite steal and NOT $49.00 but .49 cents. That was the high point of my day. Please disregard the necklace because I don't plan on wearing it with the dress.  I tried the dress on with my booties and my wedges. I kind of like both.

Missing Europe

With the hubby temporarily unemployed, our plans are on hold from traveling outside of the states.  Luckily we have traveled all over, but it's been a few years since our last trip to Italy.  Meanwhile, everywhere I go to shop, there are traces and reminders of places we have been.

1. Venice

2. London

3. Paris

4. Argentina - I've never traveled here but would love to soon.

Flashback Friday - the original boy band

band: Duran Duran
song: The Chauffer (one of my faves)

I remember being a freshman in high school and totally being in love with Duran Duran (who btw is coming  to town and playing DAR Constitution Hall).  I remember my friends and I writing fantasies about our favorite Duran member (mine was Simon) and we'd passed it along to each other and continued the story.  Ah the innocence of youth. The notebook is long gone, but the memories remain.

Check out this site!!

I'm obssessed with youlookfab.com - a great style blog where you can post your outfits, purchases and show off your style.  But the cool thing about this site is that if you're stuck in a rutt, or over-spending on new items that you may like but not love, then this is the place to be.

You will get opinions on everything from how to wear an item of clothing, what may or may not look good, trends (etc.) and general support of the youlookfab community.  I highly recommend this place for all those who love to shop. And, it's just plain fun.

Flashback Friday - Gone Daddy Gone!!

I remember this song vividly. A friend had given me  a mixed tape with the 2 greatest bands ever. Do you remember mixed tapes?  Anyway, one one side was this group and I fell in love because it were songs made for the angsty teenager. To this day, this group still rocks!!  Too bad I never got to see them in concert:

Band: Violent Femmes
Song: Gone Daddy Gone

The other side was an oldies group which to this day is the best boy band ever: The Monkees.

Fashion Fun at H&M

This weekend I had a chance to go shopping and unfortunately spent a lot of money that I shouldn't have.  I also tried on some fun outfits from HM but did not purchase.  I think I want the coat. Check these out and let me know what you think?
