August to-do list!!!

I've been thinking about updating this blog on a daily basis starting the month of August, which happens to be tomorrow. I'm not exactly sure what the focus of this blog will be, so on I go about my daily life which happens to be quite boring (if I had kids, I would be quite busy but alas the it is not in the stars for me).  So I reminisce (the word of the month)...again...about the past, the present and the future and what it will hold.

Today, I dropped B off and wasn't sure what my day was going to hold.  I knew I couldn't spend $$$ as expenses are tight and B's birthday is right around the corner. He does want the new Iphone rather than replacing his stolen bike. Priorities, right? Anyway, I ended up riding to Old Town Alexandra, had lunch at Chipotle, checked out Ann Taylor Loft (too much color for the early Fall collection) and then ended up at the mall and DSW and finding shoes that I so wanted - these Bandolino's:

I really like the collection at the Gap today: lots of black pencil pants / tight fitting cropped pants, gray t- shirts and black jackets, chunky v-neck sweaters.  This so reminded me of the old Gap with it's cool mod look of the 90's. It also reminded me of the JCrew collection.  I think I will shop this look in September.

Back in the day, I would have worn this outfit but with a flat lace-up oxford shoe or my Doc Martins. Hmm, do I still have my Dr. Martins?

After walking around for hours, I really didn't see anything I like so I ended up going home and watching bad Saturday t.v.

My August To-Do List:
1. buy June birthday gifts for J, my sister, and L.L.
2. buy August birthday gifts for B, F, L.B.
3. Clean up guest room
4. sell stuff on Ebay
5. go bicycling (by myself?)
6. check out the Ginsberg photo exhibit at National Gallery of Art
7. exercise more
8. Blog more about fashion - although i should be happy since it's casual clothes for the next 6 weeks.

About yesterdays post...

After skimming through J Crews fall catalog, I started reminiscing about the past again, especially during my college years, say early 90's.

At that time I was still finding myself through fashion and music. Some of the first concerts I ever went to were:
1. Duran Duran - okay this band really ages me now but I was still in middle school and high school. I was in love with Simon Le Bon then moved on to John Taylor who still looks pretty darned hot.

2. Depeche Mode - "People Are People" was the first songs I heard from this band and 5 albums later, they were still my favorite.

3. The Ramones - I fell in love with them after seeing "Rock and Roll High School".  The ultimate punk band (in my opinion) with catchy and simple music.

4. Charlie Sexton (only the most beautiful man at that time) - I can't even remember what he sang but new I wanted to see him concert.

5. Sisters of Mercy (before they became a "rock" band) - "... I want more..." - I can still dance to this group at this day.

6. Siouxie and the Banshees - typical Goth band. Siouxie is still the coolest goth chick ever.

Fall Fashion

While it's 95+ degrees outside, Fall Fashion has already sprouted in the retail world.  Don't get me wrong, I can't wait for cooler weather, but right now I'm just getting into my Summer fashion clothes with all the brights, whites and florals.  I am missing the color blocking look though.

And wouldn't you know it, I just recieved the Fall catalog from J. Crew and it has the most amazing clothes. It kind of reminds me of late 80's early 90's feel to them, mostly back and seem very french chic. I would love to go back to my roots of wearing black and can't wait.

My Fall Shoes Lusts:

J crew - Coddington suede platforms

J Crew: Dorian Wedges

J Crew: McAlister Wedge boots

Seychelles: Dancing the night away

J Crew: Tilly two tone platforms

One more item for the winter that I'm in love with is the Islington Coat by Boden - I call it nouveau vintage and it comes in grey and purple:

Another item I've been obssessing about is a black leather jacket preferably the 2nd one from the left. I like structure in a leather jacket:

Hats!!!

I've discovered hat. Well sort of.  I decided to try on some hats although most of them would be more appropriate for fall and winter, hence it doesn't hurt to try them on. Next time I'll have to take picutres of me with them on. These are the few that I like at Target.:

I can feel Fall in the air as I'm getting lots of catalogs full of Fall gear. I am so looking forward to it after all this hot weather we are getting. Would you believe that we've had 46 days of over 90 degree weather? Ugh! I'm ready for cooler air.

OMG - Charlatans UK!!!

I've been reminiscing about the past lately mostly thinking about my college days in the early 90's:  the music I listened to, the clothes I wore, the concerts I went to, the night clubs.  Music was my only outlet next to clothes although I really didn't follow the trends because I mostly wore black and tried to be "goth" but not really. Maybe mod was the correct term I'd use for my fashion sense. Too bad we didn't have digital cameras back then because I would have loved to post some old pictures.

As for reminiscing, the Charltans UK are coming to concert at the Black Cat on September 9 and I can't wait to see them.  I purchased tickets as soon as I saw the line up and I didn't want to make the mistake of having them sell out like Echo and the Bunnymen.  Ahh, flashback from the past.  Is it okay for me to still listen go to concerts and feel young again?  I think it's okay.

Saturday Blahs.

If you saw me right now, I would look like a bum. Okay, not really a bum but very close: Gray yoga pants, a t-shirt with a slight stain on it.  Yuk!  In-laws just left a short while ago and i feel bad not hanging out with them.  I am relieved to just do nothing today.  I'm not even in the mood to shop on Ebay.

In-Laws in Town.

Work has been crazy, crazy, crazy with working 14 hours one day, and another 10 the next.  Meanwhile B's parents got here on Wednesday and he's been taking care of them as I've been working. I feel bad ignoring them and maybe I can take half a day today.

I haven't had a chance to figure out what to do about clothes.  I got People's Stylewatch yesterday and happened upon some later Summer and Fall fashions. To be quite honest, I am sooo looking forward to the Fall now since it's been horribly hot this Summer with highs in the upper 90's.

I so want this dress: Come Away With Me by Modcloth

Back from Florida (Not really a fashion post)

BAI am so glad to be back even though the weather was so much better down there than here. At least with Florida it is expected to be 90 - 100 degrees and sunny but here in DC at 105 degrees, that's pretty hot.  There was no point in being fashionable as the weather was just too hot and I needed less clothes on the body as possible.  We ended up being typical tourists as we headed to Orlando to check out Disney and Universal.

The week went by pretty quickly.  Saturday, we landed and didn't really do much except eat bad chinese buffet.

Sunday,  we went to the Mall of Millenia which kind of reminded me of Tysons II in McLean.  It was pretty crowded and i ended up buying a beautiful turquoise bracelet from Banana Republic. Mom was raving about it so I bought it and I may give it to her for her birthday.

Back at the resort, we asked a local about where to go for 4th of July and he mentioned the town of Celebration which was a 10 minutes away past Disney.  The community was originally owned by Disney but was sold a few years ago.  Although not quite a town since they do not have a mayor or a police department, this quiet and perfectly upscale (surreal) neighborhood is something from a movie (think The Stepford Wives).  Too perfect for my taste.  This picture was taken on 4th of July evening.

Monday, we headed to Epcot for old times sake. The weather was overcast with a highs in the 80's and we thoroughly enjoyed it but were exhausted by the end of the day.

Tuesday, B and I being our geeky selves went to Universal to see the new Harry Potter theme park and lets just say it was ridiculously crowded and very hot.  The temps rose to about 95 degrees and there was no where to sit.  We decided to get on one ride, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, and stood in line for 1.5 hours but it was worth it in the end. B loved it and so did I.

Wednesday, B left for home and mom and I went to another mall before F flew down.  I didn't buy anything as time when by too fast and we had to rush to the airport to pick up F. We didn't do to much as F fell asleep so mom and I went to the junky flea markets off of route 192.  I HATED IT with a passion.  At night, i had a little tiff with my mom and went to bed.

Thursday, cousins came down with my 2 aunts. They ended up going to Sea World and we drove to Clearwater Beach by Tampa. The day was absolutely beautiful, the beach was clean, the people were a little more upscale crowd, the sand was a beautiful white. F got burned bad and I turned dark as usual.

Back to the resort, dinner was fabulous. We went to Crabby Joe's and I had my crab fix taken care of.

Friday, F and I planned to go to Daytona Beach and wanted to stop at St. Augustines.  B had suggested going there since it was an old historic Spanish settlement. I wasn't planning on going but we decided to do it anyway and I'm so glad we did.

An hour later, we were in Daytona Beach.  I was kind of disappointed but someone told me that these beaches were for the Spring Breakers.  Ohhh, that explained the hoochey crowd. And what's up with parking on the beach?  Cars on the beach ruined it for me.

Anyway, this trip was for Mom and my Dad (RIP).  It wasn't a bad trip to Orlando but I know I will never go back, maybe Miami or the Keys but that's it for Orlando.

It's Travel Day!

6:00 a.m.
I was awoken by the phone at 6:00 a.m. this morning which annoyed me because it was the W.Post delivery guy trying to get access to the building. I did let him in and tried to get back to sleep but couldn't.

I packed last night but I still think I'm taking too many clothes:  8 tops, 4 pants, jeans, exercise wear, running shoes, thong sandals, black wedges.  Should I take another bag? I'm limiting myself on the amount of shoes so that I can make room for new shoes if we go to the Outlet Malls.

So much to do this morning: weigh-in, get coffee, go to post office, shower and then off to the airport.

Will write again later tonight.

Almost Saturday

It's a beautiful day 80 degrees out today with low humidity.  I knew work was short today and it was casual friday so I ended up wearing my skinny jeans, my new Anthropologie sailor top, my new Ebay black wedges and old khaki ATL jacket.

I met up with J for lunch at an Indian restaurant up on barracks row, then headed to StitchDC, a small yarn and fabric store where we had taken a sewing class.  J is big in knitting for her daughter and she's made so many lovely things, so she bought some cotton based yarn to knit a sweater.

Afterwards, went to home to see my lovely hubby watching Ghana lose to Uruguay.

I need to pack but instead took pictures of my outfit above.

What can I post?

Not much. I got my hair cut short. Okay shorter.  It looks pretty darn good if I do say so myself.  Will I post?  Maybe. Maybe not.

2 more days before we're off the Florida.  It will be nice to get away from the city and do something different.  I'm taking half a day tomorrow from work, then run errands, get cash, clean house and pack.  I do hope I pack light.  My challenge will be to figure out what to wear in a warm and humid environment.  Makeup is out. SPF is totally in.

Current obsessions/looking for:  red shoes, brown belt, nude wedges, mod necklace.
