This about me: random postings of a 40-something wannabe fashionista, with a little music thrown in, the DC area, family, and whatever else comes my way. Enjoy.
I really wanted to wear this outfit today but ended up nixing it for pants and another sleeveless top. The skirt waist was about 1" too big and fell on my hips and then I thought I was showing too much leg. Hubby said I looked find but sometimes I just don't "feel" the outfit. Do you know what I mean? Now that I see the outfit on the photo, it really didn't look too bad. I'll wear this outfit next time.
I'm going to start using the manual mode in my camera and not use the flash anymore because of the shadows on the wall causing my body to look huge. So much for being a good photographer dealing with light. I didn't even edit these photos.
This outfit was worn to work. Not sure if I really loved the outfit but it made to since I only see 2 other people in my office on slow days. Sometimes I wonder if it's even worth dressing up. (It does make me feel good to dress up though)
I've been having my eye on a Kate Spade Beatrice striped dress for ages but Nordstrom didn't have it available at their website so I couldn't try one on. Actually, I think only Bloomingdale's carries it now.
I wandered in to H&M and a saw a similar dress that looked great on but may have been a bit short for my age range. No matter, dear hubby liked it and it flattered my body and he said to get it. It was only $17.95 after all.
Ohhh, the biking outfits are not so great, but whatever. This is exercise after all, not a fashion show. (I did, however, manage to put on a little red lipstick with some SPF but it didn't stay on very long :)

will eventually buy a new road bike.
The hubby and I decided to find an off-the-beaten-path bike trail because we were bored with the same DC routes. Don't get me wrong, DC has come a long way to accommodate the bicyclist and tourists alike, but most often the bike paths are crowded with many bicyclists, runners, and pedestrians, and we just needed a change of scenery. We decided to find somewhere a bit quieter and came upon the Indian Head Rail Trail out in Waldorf, MD, about 45 minutes east of DC. The bike trail connects the city of Waldorf all the way to the small town of Indian Head about 13.5 miles away. The trail is surrounded by mature forests, natural wetlands and occasional farmland. We encountered butterflies, dragonflies, deer, herons, egrets and turtles sunbathing on tree logs. Apparently the bald eagle make there homes in the area although we didn't see any.
It was a nice day out. I got a chance to see a friend who had a baby about 7 weeks ago. Yah, I know I'm bad, but I made food and brought a gift. I'm a good friend. Really!
Trying on shorts and a tiered camisole top at ATL. Both on sale, but I didn't buy them. Maybe I'll go back for the shorts, but they didn't have a smaller size. I love the top, but thought it was a bit too bare for my age.
Another cute summer dress from ATL. The XSP fit like a glove and the color was great but it wasn't on sale so I plan on waiting for it for a while.
Just another day in the office. Wore flats to work but changed to heels letter. I like the pop of blue in the cardigan but for some reason the top made my middle look to big. I shouldn't have tucked in the shirt.
Lately I've been quite bored with my exercise routine and have been looking to change it up a bit by taking a dance class, specifically ballet. I've always had a fondess for this classical style of dance and remember taking classes as a youngster. Unfortunately, my parents couldn't afford to take classes and by the time I was 11-12 it was pretty late. The idea of being a prima ballerina vanished and my dreams were crushed.
Now as an adult, I realize I can still take classes for fun and fitness and to quench the thirst for this ballet fantasy. I've discovered a class called B. Fit that incorporates barre work with pilates and basic ballet work. The first class begins on Friday after work and I can't wait. It costs $22 for the first class and the second class is free. All I would need to wear is basic exercise clothes and bare feet or socks. (too bad no ballet shoes :).
I wanted to dress a bit casual today and I usually can on certain Mondays and Fridays. Today was one of those days. It seems that suits are a bit passe at my place of work so I tend to mix it up a bit by coordinating tops and bottoms and lately more dresses and skirts.
Hubby and I decide to take a short bike ride to the movies but ended up riding a total of 21 miles with breaks in between. We saw X-Men (loved it), then had thai for lunch, then decided to extend our bike ride. Had I known that I would have changed into something a little more sportier. The reason being that sweat and cotton don't mix.
Gotta love those fridays when you can almost wear whatever you want. I wasn't in the mood for jeans or pants, so ended up wearing a basic pencil skirt. I was planning on wear higher wedges, but ended up going with flats because my legs have had a major workout this whole week (lots of running and classes).
I've always like to show a little skin, albeit in the ankle area. Ha hah!! I'm still not sure if rolling up the jeans shortens my legs or not but I like them both ways. Sometimes I think, should I even care??? :)
As much as I love DC, there is something about the fashion that just so, so, so...I can't put a word on it. You can see by the outfit. :)
I would love to spice it up a bit but in my field, there's just no way except to accessorize using jewelry, shoes and a good haircut. I basically live in jackets/blazer these days so that's what you can expect.
I found this grey skirt hidden away in one of my storage boxes. I've had it for years and could never throw it away because it was one of those grey colors you don't see to often, almost like a steel gray or blue gray. Anyway, I've had this skirt through my weight gains and weight losses and now it's a bit too big, but I wore it anyway.
1. What is your favorite yogurt flavor?
Dannon Activia Light Peach - I love this yogurt because of its creamy texture but not for the reason stated on their commercials. :)
2. Ankle or knee socks? and on the same theme, white socks or coloured??
If I wore socks, it would be knee socks and dark with boots.
3. How is the weather right now?
Beautiful, crisp day. High's in the low 80's. Finally.
4. Are you a fast typer? Eh.
5. Red or White Wine?
Red all the way. Sangiovese.
Do I have shoe fetish? It's possible because I do get excited and flushed after trying on pairs that look AND feel good and then buying them. All 4 pairs of them.
I have a need to buy shoes. I'm an addict. Here's how I justify this need:
It's the one part of my body that almost always never changes (although ever since the weight loss I have gone down a half to full shoe size),
I always wear my shoes and they don't sit in the closet like some of my clothes with tags on it.
When I see something that I like and it's on sale, I have to have it.
And, the good news is I don't overly spend on expensive shoes. I don't discriminate at all and can find shoes at most discount places to upscale shoe stores (if on sale) I do tend to buy many shoes at one time when I get lucky. And I got lucky. :)
So no outfit post today but I thought of doing something different such as Flashback Fridays. This post can be about anything related to the past with regards to music, or fashion, or pop culture. It can be about anything. It's just fun to reminisce.
Mine this week has to do with music. The other day I was rummaging through my cd's when I came across this band: The Communards and one of my favorite songs was "So Cold the Night" - Ah memories.!!! I hope you enjoy this video as much as I do.
"So Cold the Nigh" by the Communards (somerville/coles)
I watch your window
I shake so scared
Spying from my room
With nervous unrest
Night after night your fingers
Caressing
The skin that is so fair you slowly
Undress
Soon we will be together
Until then so cold the night
Soon we will be together
Until then so cold the night
I know that you knowthat I'm here
Each night
Watching and praying the time is now
Right
For me to undress and caress you
Until then I'll just sit here and dream.
Soon we will be together
Until then so cold the night
Soon we will be together
Until then so cold the night
Cold the night, cold the night
Soon my love
Soon my secret lover
Soon my love
Soon my secret lover
Soon my love
Soon my secret lover
Soon my lover
I watch your window
I shake so scared
Spying from my room with nervous
Unrest
Night after night your fingers
Caressing
The skin that is so fair you slowly
Undress
Soon we will be together
Until then so cold the night
Soon we will be together
Until then so cold the night
Soon we will be together
Until then so cold the night
Soon we will be together
Until then so cold the night
Cold the night
Cold the night
Cold the night
Cold the night
Cold the night
Cold the night
Ooh it's so cold without you
Cold the night
Cold the night
Cold the night
Cold the night
Cold the night
Cold the night

shoes: Nine West (yes, I've worn them quite a few times the past week)
It will be nice not to dress up for work this week as I will not be working until Friday.
Lately, taking photos of myself forces me to deal with body issues that I've always had but am slowly getting used to. I have to tell myself that: "I AM PETITE!! I HAVE SHORT LEGS!!! GET OVER IT!!!" I can now wear clothes that make me look and feel good.
Sometimes I cheat wearing things don't look flattering but that's okay.
We're going way, way out into the rural area of Northern Maryland for hubby's niece's high school graduation party. I think my outfit works for a casual, but nice look. I'm sure there will be others in regular jeans and t-shirts (not that there's anything wrong with that :), but it's better to dress up then dress down, right?
It was lovely day out and I thought this old ensemble would work. I wanted to wear something different besides the usual jeans and t-shirt. Although a bit too short and slightly revealing, I managed to wear biker shorts underneath. :)
I've worn this dress before and decided to change it up a bit by wearing a short sleeve top and a necklace with a pop of color. I thought it worked out nicely. However, I did end up changing the shoes because there was no way I was riding my bike with heels on (I have done that once or twice but DC is not known for the fashionable on bikes - however, I try :).
I actually had to dress UP this Friday due to meetings at work. Anyway here's a dress that my mom was getting rid of because it was to big for her. Yes, it was big on me, but I managed to cinch it was a skinny belt and put a jacket over it.
I may have worn a similar outfit last week, but the top is different on this one. It was another one of those hot days so wanted to wear something sleeveless underneath a warm jacket. Because the neckline of the top was pretty busy, the only accessory I had on was the belt which I've worn before.
