NYC 5 Boro'sTour - My Experience

5:30 a.m.  - The alarm goes off.  I couldn't sleep so technically I got maybe 4 hours of sleep due to the excitement of the bike ride. Or maybe because subconsciously I thought I wouldn't wake up, so I kept waking up throughout the night.  We showered, donned our biking regalia and headed to the PATH train from Exchange place to World Trade Center.  It was chilly and overcast and never got sunny until later in the day.

PATH stop at World Trade Center

 World Trade Center

Arrived at 7:15 at corner of Park and Reade St. - Note the crowd

 Crowd gets bigger and closer

Sporty Spice. Not the best look for me but whatever. It was cold out. Ride started at 7:45. Rode up 6th Ave to Central Park. I forgot to take photos until I got to a rest stop.

 Rest area at Harlem.
 Random shot of bicyclists.

FDR Drive overlooking the Queensboro Bridge

 The climb on Queensboro Bridge.

The climb down.

 Hubby pumping his tire.

Rest area at Astoria Park, Queens.

In Brooklyn with the view on Manhattan

 Passing the Brooklyn Bridge

If you look really close, you can see the sign for the Verrazano Narrows Bridge.
I've ridden over may times going to visit my uncle in Long Island as a kid and now I was going to ride on it...on my bike.

Rest stop before the steep climb over the Verazanno Narrows Bridge.

Making our way up the bridge.
Hubby on the peak of the bridge.

Me at the top overlooking Brooklyn. Note the red face due to the sunburn / windburn from the cold air on top of the bridge.

The finale after the bridge - Ft. Wadsworth, Staten Island.

40 miles done. Then a ferry ride from Staten Island to Battery Park. Sorry no photos. I was too pooped to take pics. Then PATH to Jersey City. Let's just say the day was longer than I had planned for.

The final photo I took was of the the moon on Sunday evening with the Manhattan Skyline. It was the perfect end to a perfect weekend.

  1. Looks like you had a lot of fun. I really want to do this bike ride but DH only had a mountain bike and that might not work out too well. LOL
