A Day At the Museum

I had a half day at work and took advantage by visiting the National Gallery of Art (NGA) here in Washington, DC.  The gallery is separated into 2 buildings. The west building: one being classic art such from French, Italian, Spanish paintings from 13-20th centuries and the East Building which focuses more on modern art installation from the 19th and 20th Centuries.

What I wore: old BR top, Gap BF jeans, DSW shoes.

I rode down from work, dropped my bike off near the sculpture garden by the Archive building, decided to walk through and snap some photos before the garden got crowded for their last Jazz in the Garden happy hour. As you can see, it was pretty quiet.

I exited the garden and went across the street to the NGA, West building, to see the newest George Bellows exhibit, a great American painter who depicted the urban city life of New York City in the early 1900s.  I found his work fascinating and on top of that I have a special fondness for NYC even though I have never live there.

Note the hustle and bustle of the city in the painting below. Bellows captured the movement and motion of the city. Your eyes can not rest anywhere.

After the exhibit I wandered around for a bit and took a few snapshots of the gallery itself which in itself is artwork at it's best.

It was off to the East building via underground walkway which was amazing.

I ended up going to see the Alexander Caulder's mobile exhibit which I love.  As you can see I love modern art ranging from Picasso to Caulder to Dali.

The day flew by quickly and I managed to stop off at the Jazz in the Garden for the last time this year.
