Last (Recall) Day of Grand Jury
Wow. What a crazy and fascinating 8 weeks of grand jury. I learned a lot of my city including the diverse group of people that was there with me. Our last day was wonderful as we got early, had lunch/dinner/happy hour then off for pie at the new Dangerously Delicious pie place that just opened up in Chinatown. It was a good end and we vowed to stay in touch (another happy hour is set up in 2 weeks).

A Day at Philly
Hi all. I can't believe I haven't posted in ages, maybe due to the fact that I was in Grand Jury service for the past 8-10 weeks, then work, then no work due to the government shutdown, well it's quite understandable that I haven't been inspired to post. But, I did have a day out in Philly with a good friend and it was just the boost I needed.
We headed to the Philadelphia Museum of Art with no idea that the the Leger Exhibit was there and I ecstatic since I love the cubist post modernist art...era...whatever (an exhibit I highly recommend).
Oh, and the museum security is so friendly (unlike the DC guards), they even asked me to if I wanted a photo. Um, yeah!!!

A New Me!!
As usual I say I will post and then I don't. My main reason: I have been summoned for grand jury duty for the last 6 weeks with another 2 weeks to go. It's been quite an experience and I will be glad when it is all over. Meanwhile, I've been thinking about major changes to how I look and one was to get a new do. I'm digging the sleek look...for now.

A Discovery!
The greatest things about city living is always finding something new. Let's just that that my neighborhood was a place you wouldn't want to be caught dead in (no pun in intended). Life beyond 16th Street (my old haunting grounds) was no somewhere you'd venture to unless you wanted trouble or led the downtown angsty life.
Anyway, life in DC has changed these days. With the move of the 930 Club, the famous rock venue housed in F Street downtown, to the U Street Corridor, that area changed big time. Hubby and I moved to this neighborhood almost 10 years ago. This area was the up and coming U-Street/Cardoza known historically for it's jazz music and a famous african-american college known as Howard University. It was still a bit "urban" to be PC about it, but now gentrification has come fast forward changing a lot of the city's gritty structure. I supposed that's a good thing for some of us.
My new discovery is a great little establishment/venue/bar/restaurant called the Satellite Room situated 2 blocks from my place, right behind the 9:30 Club. I had heard about this place when it opened but never intended on going since I thought my going out days are quite limited these days. Call me an old fogie, whatever. :) But on this particular days, friends suggested meeting up on Sunday for drinks in their outdoor patio. OUTDOOR PATIO? Why not and so we went. The bar is very modern inside, very casual outside, with all types of people from young and old. Let's just I didn't feel out of place like some places. They had a good selection of bar food, beer and wine and the music was just as good. It was just nice to hang out on a day that wasn't particularly hot. Let's just say I'll be visiting there sometime soon again.
(hubby below, no photos of me since it was a bad hair and clothes day)

Friday Laughs / Flashback Fridays
I just had to laugh when I saw this outfit from the 80s or was it the 90s? I don't even remember ever wearing something like this. Do you?
Oh and here's to Flashback Friday. This one's for you Eleanor (although it's my favorite song):

August To Do List
Work will be quite slow this month so I'm going to take advantage of some time off to travel, spend time with family and friends, take lots of photos, rediscover my own city, and blog as much as I can.
I know what you're thinking and I'm sure I say this all the time but I will give it my best, after all this is my version of a daily journal and I will always look back and remember.
Meanwhile, here's a photo of the recent OMD concert at the 9:30 Club. Please forgive the bad IPhone photos.
